Kent County Wastewater Treatment Facility
The Kent County Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant is an advanced secondary waste treatment facility that receives wastewater from Kent County, southern portions of New Castle County and northern portions of Sussex County. The facility processes up to 16.3 MGD of wastewater from 13 sanitary sewer sub-districts. Treated wastewater is then discharged to a tributary to the Murderkill River.
The Treatment plant has recently received several prestigious awards for their Environmental, Health, Safety and Sustainability Management Program; Environmental Achievement and has received Honorable Mention as “Facility of the Year” by the EPA.
In an effort to neutralize their carbon footprint, a 1.2 Megawatt, Active Photovoltaic Solar field was installed. Fayda Engineering & Energy Solutions, LLC* was responsible for engineering the upgrade of the incoming electrical service to the facility and engineered the interface of the Solar Field with the campus 12kV primary distribution system. Working closely with Delaware Electric Co-Op to ensure a high degree of reliability and paralleling capabilities, the seamless integration of the Solar Field would yield enough power to move towards a Net-Zero annual carbon footprint.
